Extreme Libertarianism

Extreme Libertarianism, which dominates Libertarian thinking, is arrived at through echo chamber reinforcing positive feedback, ultimately requiring immoral and impracticable rationales in justification to reach immoral and impractical solutions, that are unattractive to nearly all voters, and hence the 3% voting for the Libertarian Party (LP). Extreme absolutes rarely if ever provide workable solutions. Pure extreme libertarianism is subject to fundamental flaws that stem from promoting personal sovereignty without really considering the harm done. Responsible persons don’t need government supervision, they just naturally conduct their lives without causing harm to others and society, whereas irresponsible persons, who do cause harm to others and society, require negative feedback, that is necessary authoritarian restrictions to personal conduct, less society devolve into chaos and ruin.

The LP platform is a very good one that holds up Libertarian ideals for which we should strive, responsibly and rationally, in full view of surrounding affects and considerations, moderating those libertarian ideals in practice with pragmatic authoritarian restrictions, the basis of pragmatic libertarianism.

Extreme libertarianism consists of “big L” libertarians and pragmatic libertarians consists “little L” libertarians. Big L Libertarianism is defined by LP platform ideals, whereas Little L Libertarianism is define by LP platform ideals limited by reasonable authoritarian restrictions. To define those reasonable limitations, objectives need be stated and plans developed to achieve those reasonable limitations.

Extreme libertarianism is pandered by LP previous presidential candidates, 1) by promoting personal sovereignty of life styles while seeking federal office when such life styles are state rights concerns as the federal government should not and constitutionally cannot regulate personal life styles, 2) by promising the elimination of federal institutions when these candidates must realize there is no chance to get elected on such a platform, and 3) by promising significant reformation of the federal government while lacking a necessary plan and lacking the necessary skill set. Historical LP Presidential Candidates promise what the federal government cannot control, what the electorate will not support, and what they are incompetent to deliver. Sure, the pandering Big L Presidential Candidates are inspirational and cause convention pandemonium, as they sing to the choir, but to what end? The result is always defeat.

Such pandering by prominent extreme libertarians has lead to a general perception by the voting public that the LP promotes drug use, drug addiction, drug trafficking, sexual debauchery, sex trafficking, homosexuality, transsexuality, federal anarchy, lawlessness, anti-americanism, peace through weakness, unfair free trade, open borders, cultural degradation, hedonism, heathenism, immorality, and nihilism. No Libertarian can win a federal election with the LP having that image.

Practical implementations of modest authoritarian restrictions to LP ideals and principles provide means to election success while moving the political pendulum toward libertarianism. Some movement is better than no movement. Extreme libertarianism offers only a step function to governmental change to absolute libertarianism. Only in open rebellion are governmental step functions possible. Minimum government and maximum freedom position is preferred as having the possibility of support over a zero government and absolute freedom position having the proven near zero support.

Libertarian Platform and Commentary

The following sections are possibly deemed problematic.

We seek a world in which all individuals are sovereign over their own lives and are not forced to sacrifice their values for the benefit of others.

We hold that all individuals have the right to exercise sole dominion over their own lives, and have the right to live in whatever manner they choose, so long as they do not forcibly interfere with the equal right of others to live in whatever manner they choose.

We oppose all attempts by government to abridge the freedom of speech and press, as well as government censorship in any form.

We oppose all interference by government in the areas of voluntary and contractual relations among individuals.

Individuals have the freedom and responsibility to decide what they knowingly and voluntarily consume, and what risks they accept to their own health, finances, safety, or life.

We support full freedom of expression and oppose government censorship, regulation, or control of communications media and technology.

Sexual orientation, preference, gender, or gender identity should have no impact on the government’s treatment of individuals, such as in current marriage, child custody, adoption, immigration, or military service laws.

Government does not have the authority to define, promote, license, or restrict personal relationships, regardless of the number of participants. Consenting adults should be free to choose their own sexual practices and personal relationships.

Until such time as the government stops its illegitimate practice of marriage licensing, such licenses must be granted to all consenting adults who apply.

Parents, or other guardians, have the right to raise their children according to their own standards and beliefs.

We support the removal of governmental impediments to free trade.

Political freedom and escape from tyranny demand that individuals not be unreasonably constrained by government in the crossing of political boundaries.

Economic freedom demands the unrestricted movement of human as well as financial capital across national borders.

We support the maintenance of a sufficient military to defend the United States against aggression.

— for Peace through Weakness

The LP platform is a very good one, but as perceived by the voting public includes the inadvertent or intentional promotion of drug use, obscenity, illicit fornication, child abuse, unfair trade, and weak defense, that strikes at the heart of family values, public decency, free trade, national defense, and criminal justice. The purpose is to promote libertarianism without promoting adverse aspects deteriorating Americana.

LP platform does not represent reality under a strict interpretation as libertarians like most citizens do not approve of extremes. Lewd acts on public sidewalks, dirty bombs smuggling across borders, unilateral unfair trade, lethal drug peddling, and a weak defense. This is solved by inserting repetitively “reasonable” in the platform so that there is room to take moderate views, attracting both libertarians and the mainstream voters, for the wins, for increasing our liberties and freedoms.
